The Royal London Gilbert Cup!
On Tuesday 18th of August, four teams embarked onto Headingley Cricket Ground and were given the opportunity to play kwik cricket during the interval between Yorkshire and Northamptonshire.
The Gilbert Cup is part of the ECB initiative, whereby the teams compete in the interval of the match. If Yorkshire progress into the final of the competition, two winning teams then get to accompany Yorkshire to Lords and are not only given the exciting opportunity to play on the Lords pitch in the interval but also an all-expenses paid for trip to Lords, including complimentary food and drink, travel and tickets!
In the morning, before the start of play, the youngsters were offered a training session with our partners ProCoach, where they learnt and practiced their skills.
The weather unfortunately took a turn for the worst, however this did not damped the spirits of the teams and they still competed to their full potential in our indoor cricket centre.
For the boys, Ripley CC and Scholes CC played a close match with Scholes CC taking the lead!
For the girls, Woodlands CC and Alne CC battled it out with Woodlands CC triumphing!
‘It was great to see all the teams get so involved during the competition. Each team displayed great sportsmanship and teamwork and some fantastic competitive cricket was played. Well done to all the four teams involved and congratulations to our winners Scholes and Woodlands CC’ -Joanne Swinbank, Assistant Project Officer
