Bradford Bhuddays & Bolton Villas progress in the GFT

Sunday 23rd August saw the semi-finals of the Grey Fox Trophy 2015 take place at Headingley Cricket Ground, the home of Yorkshire CCC.

The day started brightly, with the sun shining down on the hallowed turf, not a cloud in the sky. The ground looked fantastic as ever, thanks to the great work of the Headingley ground staff.

At 9:30 am, the first semi-final between the Bradford Bhuddays and the Hall Park Templars got underway, with the Templars winning the toss and choosing to field. The Bhuddays batted well, on what was a very good pitch, with some great stroke play, and good running throughout their innings. They were able to post a very competitive total, finishing their 30 overs on 201 for 3.

In reply, the Hall Park Templars were behind the required run rate for the majority of the innings, leaving themselves 32 runs required off the final over. Some lusty blows saw the Templars fall agonisingly short, with the Bhuddays winning by just 2 runs. A thrilling, and yet nerve-racking, ending for the spectators from both sides gathered in the East Stand.

The second semi-final of the day saw Bolton Villas take on the Nidderdale Notsoyoungs. Bolton Villas batted first, posting a total 187 for 7. With a storm approaching, the chances of finishing the second innings seemed very slim. The Notsoyoungs started their batting innings not only thinking about chasing 188, but having to stay ahead of the Duckworth Lewis scores to stand a chance of winning when the rain eventually arrived. This added pressure may have been the cause of a few early wickets, causing the D/L score to shoot up. However, some very skilled batting got the Notsoyoungs back into the game, taking them ahead of the required rate. A run out just prior to the rain starting left the Notsoyoungs just behind the D/L score. Unfortunately no further play was possible, resulting in Bolton Villas progressing through to the final of the Grey Fox Trophy.

Credit must go to all players who took part in the semi-finals, with some very good skills on show, and all fixtures being played in the right spirit.

The Grey Fox Trophy Final will take place on Sunday 13th September at Scarborough CC, following the final of the plate competition in the morning. All spectators are welcome, with play starting at 10:30 am. For more information, email sam.gascoyne@yorkshireccc.com and follow @yccc_ycf on twitter.
