Fishlake & Bolton Villas crowned Grey Fox Champions!

On Sunday 13th September, at Scarborough Cricket Club, four of Yorkshire’s best over 50’s teams took to the field to battle for the Grey Fox Plate and the Grey Fox Trophy.

With the Grey Fox plate fixture taking place in the morning, Fishlake CC took on Hepworth Idle CC in a 20 over game. Batting first, Hepworth Idle batted well to reach a total of 130 for 8. Following run adjustments due to the competitions rules, Fishlake were left requiring 115 runs to win. A good run chase took the game into the last over, and eventually the final ball, where 2 runs were required to win! In a high pressure situation, the Fishlake batters were able to scamper the required runs, following a fine cut shot, to get over the line and take home the Grey Fox Plate.

The final of the Grey Fox Trophy competition, between the two times champions Bradford Bhuddays and Bolton Villas, got underway at 2 pm. After winning the toss, Bolton Villas decided to bat on a very good pitch. A fantastic array of shots led them to a total of 158 for 4 following their 30 overs, which was then adjusted to 159. A very challenging total, leaving the Bradford Bhuddays needing to bat very well to get over the line. However, some very skill full bowling restricted the Bhuddays stroke play throughout the innings, leaving them short of Bolton Villas impressive total. This left a new team to be crowned Grey Fox Trophy champions 2015! Congratulations to Bolton Villas, whom have played some good cricket on their route to the final this year!

The Grey Fox Committee would like to express their gratitude to everyone involved in the finals day, from umpires and scorers, to the very helpful and friendly staff from Scarborough Cricket Club, without whom the day could not have gone ahead! All four teams played some very good cricket, and the Grey Fox spirit was displayed throughout!
