New Look Cricket in the Classroom for 2015/16

Cricket in the Classroom is the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation’s flagship educational offering, with around 4000 children experiencing a day at the world famous Headingley Cricket Ground on an annual basis.

Since its inception, the scheme has hosted over 30,000 children from all over the county, with many schools coming back year after year for a cricket taster session delivered by Pro Coach, a classroom session, learning about Yorkshire’s rich heritage and history with our tutor followed with an interactive quiz and ending the day with a tour of Headingley Cricket Ground.

The structure and content of Cricket in the Classroom has been successful and highly popular for a number of years, however we understand that the school curriculum is ever changing to meet the needs of the primary schools and the demands of their pupils. As a result we have evolved this year’s offering, introducing a new Cricket in the Classroom Work Book and a fresh interactive quiz for the 2015/16 school year.

The Work Book, written by YCF tutors and in conjunction with primary school teachers focuses on key curriculum subjects such as numeracy, literacy, history and geography all delivered with a cricket, and in particular Yorkshire Cricket theme throughout.

Participants will be challenged to complete the work book to their best ability, with a special Vinny the Viking Brain Buster question on each page to really test the more advanced pupils. The book caters for children of all educational abilities, ending with a fun Crossword and Word Search. The children will be encouraged to take their work books back home or to school to complete.

Despite the change in the classroom session, Cricket in the Classroom will continue to have the same structure as always; delivering a 90 minute Cricket session, followed by the 90 minute classroom session that takes you to lunch. Then, at 13:30 the children and their teachers are taken for a Behind the Scenes stadium tour, looking at the Museum, Media Centre as well as the Player’s facilities in the Carnegie Pavilion to round off an unforgettable day at the home of the County Champions!

The scheme is offered to schools in Yorkshire at the reduced price of £100 per 30 children. Sessions can consist of either 1 or 2 groups of 30 children.
