Bhuddays defeat the Renegades
The Bradford Bhuddays started their Grey Fox Trophy campaign with a narrow 9 run victory over a more than competitive CYCL Renegades outfit.
Under threatening skies, the Bhuddays strapped them on and strode out to bat with Bhatti and Iqbal leading the way.
It didn’t take long before Bignall had Iqbal trapped in front, dismissing the opener LBW for 2. Run scoring proved tricky, however both Bhatti and Butt stuck to their task well before Bhatti was bowled for 23.
The platform had been set and allowed Mahboob and Butt to both retire with scores of 27 and 32 respectively. Wickets fell at regular intervals, however useful contributions from Maroof and Khan saw the former champions set a very competitive total of 180 for 8.
A disastrous start ensued for the Renegades with opening batsmen Blaine and Spencer dismissed cheaply. However, that brought Bramley and Fenwick together who scored fluently. This fluency continued as Jackson made his way to 31 runs and retired.
With the lower order in, the Bhuddays took a cluster of wickets and it was left to Fenwick to return and try and get his team over the line. After falling for 40, the Renegades were restricted to 171 for 8, handing the Bhuddays the victory.
Another tight and high quality encounter in this year’s Grey Fox Trophy.
