Wetherby Wrinklies Net Victory Over Fishlake

The Wetherby Wrinklies began their run at the Grey Fox Trophy title in emphatic style with an 84 run win over fellow tournament veterans, Fishlake.

Under grey skies, the Wrinklies won the toss and elected to bat; a decision that proved to be a sound one as Boothroyd and Korko hit the ground running. Both scored freely before retiring at 30. There was brief rest bite for Fishlake when Cleal was caught off the bowling of Dinsdale.

However Andy Baron picked up the run rate again with some clean hitting, ably supported by Ali, Early and Dewhirst lower down the order. After Korko re-entered the frame having seen all of his team-mates out or retired, the score was an impressive 240 for 8 off 35 overs.

Fishlake had a mountain to climb, and were given a positive start by openers Wallbank and Edwards. Nonetheless, a miserly spell of bowling from Frankland, ably supported by Dewhirst, Briggs and Bryant, all taking 2 wickets each ensured that the Wrinklies total was never threatened. This was in spite of a fine counter from Phil Wood who gave the chase respectability, ending with 34 not out.

Fishlake finished on 156 all out, handing Wetherby Wrinklies a comfortable victory.

Next up for the Wetherby Wrinklies is the Oakwood Old Gits on Sunday 10th July at Arthington CC.
