YCF Run Club Take On Their First 10K!
Sunday 2nd October saw six members of the YCF Run Club take on their first organised event in the form of the Women’s 10K series at Temple Newsam!
It was an early start on Sunday morning with the group meeting at 8:45am in the run village to register and collect their race numbers. The run started at 10 o’clock with each run club member pacing themselves as previously practised on Monday nights in and around Headingley.
The course was 10 kilometres of differing terrain, including some very muddy patches due to rain the night before! Fortunately, the weather held out for the day and the conditions were lovely for running. Hill sprints training came in handy when the final stretch of the course included some gradual inclines.
Each member of the running club completed the race at their own pace but still produced some excellent timings. Overall the team ran 60km’s in a combined total of 351 minutes – meaning an average 10k of 58.5 minutes! Well done girls!
The 10K was a massive achievement for all involved. At the beginning of each YCF Run Club, members set personal goals, a lot of the aims this time round we to be able to run a 5K comfortably and we’ve gone above and beyond that! It just goes to show how a little bit of exercise on a Monday night makes a big difference. -Charlotte Jones, The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation
The YCF Run Club were raising funds for the Foundation’s Health & Well-being theme, to help kick start some new health related projects as well as support the work they already do. If you would like to donate to the cause, or fundraise with us, please view our Just Giving page below:
The group will be running at a number of events over the next 12 months with a dual purpose; to raise funds for the YCF and to give members of the running group and YCCC staff members goals to aim for.
