Education Day 2017

On Friday 9th June, The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation welcomed 20 schools into Headingley stadium for unique learning experience outside of the classroom.

600 children got involved in a wide range of workshops, from physical activities on the pitch to classroom based sessions and what a day it was!

The day began with an assembly on the pitch, where YCF’s Project Manager Nick Robinson gave a team talk and introduced two of Yorkshire very own players, Will Rhodes and James Wainman. ProCoach coaches then kicked off the day with a little healthy competition on the pitch, where a few lucky children got picked into ‘Team Rhodes’ or ‘Team Wainman’ to compete in a mini obstacle course.

The schools were then given a welcome pack and map and set off on their adventure around the historic Headingley Stadium!

Workshops included Kwik Cricket on the outfield by partners’ ProCoach, Caribbean Dance by RJC Dance, Pinsent and Masons’ legal workshop, First Aid Course courtesy of Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHs Trust, Budgeting lessons by Skipton Building Society, YCF Stadium Tour by tour guide Mel, Children’s Heart Surgery Fund healthy hearts workshop, staying healthy with BUPA, cricket skills by ProCoach, literacy skills by Pobble, Clarion’s Law workshop, Major Match Day Workshop by YCF’s Cricket in the Classroom tutor Pete Keighley .

In addition to the workshops, children got the chance to meet Yorkshire’s Will Rhodes and James Wainman and Yorkshire Diamond Anna Nicholls as they took part in the workshops and then showed then how it’s done on the pitch!

What a fantastic day! The children were really engaged in the sessions and had some brilliant ideas, it was great to see them getting so involved. And the Grand Finale, wow!

-Joanne Swinbank, Assistant Project Officer

One of the workshops was a West Indies Dance, themed around Test opponents. All 600 children were taught a routine throughout the day and came together at the end for one big performance, the Grand Finale Farewell!

The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation would like to say a huge thank you to all workshops, schools and staff alike and everyone involved in making Education Day the success it was.
