Round 2: Bowling Old Lane vs Hall Park Templars

The first game of round 2 of the Grey Fox Trophy was underway this week with Bowling Old Lane hosting the Hall Park Templars on Sunday 11th June. Hall Park were looking to extend their lead at the top of the table, while Bowling Old Lane were looking to secure their first win in their first game of the season.

The first innings saw Hall Park Templars defending the wickets and hoping to pick up the runs, and some impressive batting was seen throughout the team. Waite, Scaife, Abbott and Reeh were all players forced to retirement, and others amounting a respectable number of runs. Some good bowling from Bowling Old Lane however saw the innings cut short with Hussain, Henif and Bashir taking wickets. The innings ends with 220 runs being scored and it was now time for Bowling Old Lane to go prove themselves for the first time in the season.

Bowling Old Lane came out strong to bat, with an impressive partnership from the opening pair, Butt and Henif. With Butt scoing 19 and Henif retiring, the match looked to be predicting a close result. However, the bowling and fielding from Hall Park Templars soon brought an end to any optimism. Abbott was the star bowler in this second innings, with an impressive 4 wickets being taken. Other wickets were also taken by Waite, Scaife and Stephenson to help bowl the Old Lanes out for 154 in 23 overs.

Although a high scoring match for both teams, Hall Park Templars were the team to walk away with the points this week. This means they go clear with 4 points at the top of the table, however, with others having games in hand it could be a short stay. The next round sees Hall Park Templars take on Nidderdale Notsoyoungs in their final game, while Bowling Old Lane are still to play their first-round game against Nidderdale also.
