Yorkshire Cancer Research is the official charity partner of Yorkshire County Cricket Club, the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation and the Yorkshire Cricket Board for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. They work together to help the people of Yorkshire avoid, survive and cope with cancer.
Sophie Bunker, Community Engagement Officer, champions our partnership and can be seen across the county at various matches and clubs letting people know about Yorkshire Cancer Research and our ‘Don’t Get Caught Out by Cancer’ campaign.
Aims of the Partnership
Together, Yorkshire Cancer Research and the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation aim to help the Yorkshire cricket community live happy, healthy and fulfilled lives. With around 778 registered clubs in Yorkshire there are roughly 87,000 children and adults we can reach to provide guidance, support and education of skin cancer and how to stay safe in the sun.
With the knowledge that early diagnosis saves lives we are striving to encourage more people to take up national screening opportunities to reduce the risk of cancer to future generations.
How you can get involved
Our ‘Don’t Get Caught Out by Cancer’ campaign covers skin cancer prevention, sun protection, early diagnosis, screening opportunities and sunscreen giveaways.
We attend matches at Headingley and beyond across the season including international test matches, one day internationals, Education day, Children’s day and Scarborough Festival and our skin cancer literature and screening opportunities highlight the dangers of too much UV exposure.
All of the money that we raise within our cricket partnership stays within the project to fund other awareness campaigns and educational events that will help to save more Yorkshire cricket lives.
Our ‘Yorkshire V Cancer – Let’s Knock it for Six’ fundraising pack has proved very popular with local cricket clubs and consists of resources for clubs to put on Yorkshire Cancer Research fundraising days. We attend as manyclub events as possible with the ‘Don’t Get Caught Out by Cancer’ message to further the education around skin cancer.
Email Sophie on email@example.com or call her on 07470 057493 to receive your fundraising pack, to discuss your ideas or to let her know about an event she can attend to help educate your club members and keep the future of Yorkshire cricket safe in the sun.
