As part of the Yorkshire Social Club, and to increase social and physical health opportunities for those at Yorkshire Cricket, the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation will be offering casual table tennis sessions.
The YCF obtained table tennis equipment through Table Tennis England’s initiative ‘Loop in the Community’. Their mission is to take table tennis to places where people already spend lots of time such as the workplace, sports clubhouses, universities and colleges. As little as ten minutes of sociable table tennis at a time provides physical and mental benefits that contribute to cognitive functioning, productivity and relaxation.
Particularly for members of the Yorkshire Social Club, table tennis provides a form of physical activity that will greatly improve mobility, co-ordination and upper body strength and in turn, reduce the risks of falls through improved balance. In addition to physical well-being, table tennis has a unique effect on cognitive health in both those living with ill mental health, and those looking to prevent symptoms of diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
Loop in the Community at Yorkshire Cricket will be available on certain match days held at Headingley for anyone to have a go. Table Tennis will also be available for Yorkshire Cricket Staff during lunch hours to participate, creating more team morale and opportunities to step away from the desk for a few minutes.
This initiative is a great addition to the YCF’s Health and Well-being offering and contribute to increased physical activity levels delivered by the YCF. All opportunities for participation will be advertised on the YCF’s website and social media channels, but if you would like further information on the programme please contact Beth on firstname.lastname@example.org.
