Top Gun - The search for the fastest bowler is on!

Are you Yorkshire’s fastest bowler?

This year, the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation are embarking on a quest to find the fastest club bowler in the county. The competition, appropriately named ‘Top Gun’, will be touring Yorkshire to test bowler’s speed, through scheduled regional heats.

The fastest bowlers from the heats will be invited to the regional finals, which will take place during the intervals of Headingley’s NatWest T20 Blast matches, from May to July 2014.

The winners of the regional finals will then progress to the Grand Finals, taking place at major matches at both Headingley and Scarborough.

The men’s final will be held during the England v India One Day International at Headingley on Friday 5th September, whilst the women’s final will be at a major match day at Yorkshire’s out ground, Scarborough (date tbc).

Both winners will receive the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation Top Gun Trophy, a 1-1 training session with Yorkshire’s First XI Coach, former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie, the chance to train with the Yorkshire 1st team squads and of course, the label of Yorkshire’s fastest club bowler.

I think Top Gun is a great idea and I am really intrigued to see what fast bowling talent the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation unearths. There is always a debate about who the quickest league bowers are; this is a fantastic opportunity to settle the argument!

The heats will be taking place in up to 3 locations (see image below) for each Yorkshire region and are open to all ages and abilities so, if you think you could rival Yorkshire’s quickest, or you know someone who could or you want to know exactly how fast you are, make sure you find your nearest heat and come along!

Entrants must represent the region their club is based in, but may enter heats in any region. Bowlers will have the opportunity to warm up and then bowl 3 deliveries recorded by a speed gun, the fastest ball of the 3 counted as the result.

Entry is £2 for adults and £1 for under 18s and bowlers can enter more than once.
