Bengal Tigers Celebrate Success
The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation are proud to highlight the success of the Bengal Tigers Cricket Team which aims to increase Bangladeshi participation in cricket across Bradford.
The team, based at Bradford Park Avenue work closely with YCF Community Development Officer Nasa Hussain and BEAP Community to provide a platform for individuals to fulfil their passion for cricket in a safe and welcoming environment. The Bengal Tigers was the first Bangladeshi community cricket team to be created in Bradford and since its creation three years ago the club has enjoyed success both on and off the field.
A clear partnership has been established between the Bangladeshi community and Bradford Park Avenue Cricket Ground and a real friendship amongst the Bengal Tigers team has been established. They take pride in the team and this has given them a strong sense of identity in the community.
Through participating in regular cricket sessions the mental well-being of the Bengal Tigers players has improved. They have also had the opportunities to travel and play against other Bangladeshi teams in cities and towns including Oldham, Hyde, Rochdale and Hull.
The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation are committed to supporting the team in their efforts and provide opportunities for the team to further pursue their passion for cricket. In previous this has included the team attending T20 fixtures at Emerald Headingley Stadium. The Foundation has also worked closely with the team to enable players to attend coaching sessions and complete their level 1 qualification.
Former England International Rugby League player Dr Ikram Butt has led on the Bengal Tigers Vs Regal Lions fixtures. The match celebrates both Bangladeshi and Pakistani culture and uses the tool of cricket to bring communities together.
Humayun Islam Chief Executive of BEAP Community Partnership commented, “ I am privileged and honoured to be part of the Bengal Tigers Cricket Club. We have gone from strength to strength and we could not have done this without the support of Nasa and his team. The Bengal Tigers are a great set of individuals and I would like to thank both Captain Jakir and Vice Captain Rafi for their hard work for this current season. We have great plans for the coming season and lets continue to use cricket as a tool to bring communities together.”
