Sporting reminiscence sessions set for expansion

As part of the National Lottery Heritage Funded – Yorkshire Cricket Heritage: Reminiscence & Education: Building a Legacy Project, Yorkshire Cricket Foundation established an online reminiscence offer which started in April when plans for reminiscence activity were changed due to the Covid 19 Pandemic.

Now the country has entered a second lockdown it was the right time for Yorkshire Cricket Foundation to set up a second weekly sporting reminiscence group on Tuesdays at 10am. After a successful Sporting Heritage Day reminiscence event on 30th September, the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation plan to supplement their weekly offer with occasional early evening special reminiscence sessions, the next is on 18th November with special guest Jeremy Lonsdale, for more details and free registrations see the below Eventbrite link:

Chris Chatten, Project Manager said, “We would like to reach as many people as possible who enjoy listening too and/or sharing their memories and we would like to encourage care homes to offer to their residents where possible. Sporting reminiscence is probably more important now than it has ever been. We are encouraging people to share their local cricket memories/photographs, and talk about sport in general, whilst connecting with others who share the same passion. We would also like to hear from potential volunteers to aid us in sustaining and growing this fantastic offer. Through our links with Dementia Forward, local social prescribing networks, and the Alzheimer’s Society we feel there is a strong need for this offer particularly in the pandemic.”

Mel Reuben, Volunteer Facilitator said, “with us now entering the second lockdown it is great we are still able to chat about cricket over the winter months as we look forward to next season”.

Thursday sessions which Yorkshire Cricket Foundation established in partnership with Looking Back also continue 2pm till 3.30pm.

The Foundation would like to hear from any volunteers that would either be interested in supporting the facilitation of sessions and/or ‘Digital Champions’ to help/support people signing into the Zoom technology if they are unfamiliar with it and using for the first time.

To register your interest as a potential volunteer and/or obtain the Zoom meeting IDs for the sessions please contact

We look forward to hearing from you soon!
