YCF Team Up With New College Bradford
We are delighted to announce a new partnership with New College Bradford (NCB) and are proud in helping them set up their college cricket team. Timing wasn’t great with the Pandemic hitting in the first year for a newly opened college however they have swiftly overcome it and created their very first cricket team. With cricket being allowed again after being on hold for many months due to restrictions and guidelines, it was a great opportunity for NCB to form a cricket team and they didn’t waste any time.
Aaqib Hussain, Head Cricket Coach at NCB stated, ‘It has been a strange year for everyone – due to the lockdowns from January we were mainly conducting our academic classes online. As things started to ease again, we managed to get back in and slowly start our cricket session. After the first cricket session I could see we had potential to create a cricket team and hit the ground running and that’s exactly what we did.’
And they are not looking to stop there with further plans in the pipeline.
Hussain continued, ‘We have big plans in the next academic year with the aim of improving our current team and playing more competitive games, focusing on creating a Girls softball cricket team who can then also be directed to the Bradford Park Avenue Ladies team and having indoor Varsity games within the New College Cluster of Pontefract and Doncaster’
The students have had plenty of practice since starting and alongside their studies and have benefitted from the coaching they have received and facilities they have been offered.
Raza Siddique, Head of Sport at NCB mentioned, ‘We have progressed quickly from not having cricket on our radar to now having a fully formed cricket team. We played our first game last week against Bradford College and have another two games with them before we break up for the summer. It’s great to be working in partnership with the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation – through which we have secured Park Avenue Bradford, as our home ground and the high-quality training facilities there for our students. It’s inspiring for our students and definitely makes a difference.’
NCB are taking on Bradford College in a tri-series event with the second and third games scheduled for 29th June and 1st July.
