With the end of the academic year fast approaching the Test provided some incredible opportunities for students who are up-to-date with their assignments and it was an action packed week for the young people involved.

The students have worked extremely hard and everyone involved from Yorkshire Cricket College has been proud to offer support in helping around the Test match – Nick Robinson, head of Yorkshire Cricket College

The work experience opportunities included…

Net bowlers: Some of our most talented bowlers were asked to net bowl at both England and New Zealand.

Under the baking sun, they toiled throughout the day on Wednesday, but the effort was all worth it. Bowling to the likes of Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Kane Williamson et al. Predictably, bat got the better of the ball, however there were wickets amongst the carnage and memories that will no doubt last a lifetime.

Pictured, YCC students had the opportunity of a life-time to bowl at England Captain’s Test Captain Ben Stokes alongside a number of England and New Zealand players.

Work with the grounds team: One of our most popular work experience options has seen three lucky students work all week with Yorkshire CCC’s grounds team, preparing the ground for the test match.

Early starts and late finishes are more than compensated by being part of test match, in and around some of the world’s leading cricketers and on the pitch during the match with 18,000 spectators surrounding them.

Three YCCC students helped the grounds team prepare the pitch.

Work in the club shop: More CV building for the students, who are working in the club shop’s during the test match

Work with Yorkshire Cricket’s events team: Earlier in the year, Sodexo presented to the students who were interested in working at events at Headingley.

A number of learners successfully applied for a job and have found themselves in the thick of YCCC hospitality areas, working in the kitchens and serving guests in the Howards Stand.

Nick Robinson, the head of Yorkshire Cricket College said: “There have been a number of exceptional work experience opportunities for college students during the recent England v New Zealand Test match at Headingly.

“The students have worked extremely hard and everyone involved from Yorkshire Cricket College has been proud to offer support around the Test match.

“All the Test match opportunities are as a direct result of attending the Yorkshire Cricket College and underlines the benefits that we can offer on top of a great education.”
