YCCC Player Assemblies
The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation engages with schools throughout the academic year. Our flagship scheme, Cricket in the Classroom engages over 4000 children a year, plus the Emerald Education Day and Drax Cup to name a few more. The opportunity to come to Headingley, the home of their cricketing heroes and role models has enthused and inspired those young people who experience our projects.
However, after the 2014 LV= County Championship winning season, profile, demand and interest in the players at the club was widely increased. In addition to the 1st XI heroics, the Academy’s maiden Yorkshire League triumph in their double winning campaign thrust the entire squad into the limelight.
As a result of this demand, the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation scheduled 7 school visits with 2 players going to each school accompanied by the Championship Trophy to conduct special player assemblies and give as many children the chance to meet the players and see, in person the most treasured trophy in English domestic cricket.
Those schools lucky enough to secure a visit prepared for their special guests in a variety of ways; some primed questions based on themes such as triumphing over adversity, nutrition and the players’ pathway through school and into their career. Others made pictures to give to the players including a spectacular papier mache White Rose (see picture below). Some children simply asked questions that popped into their heads – ranging from their career stats and toughest opposition to what car they drove and how much money they earned!
In total, over 1500 children aged from 5 to year 11 took part in these special player assemblies, memories that will last for a long time to come.
The kids thoroughly enjoyed your visit and wil be using the afernoon as aprt of their local sorting heroes project
