Junior Viking Day Success!
On 14th June, Yorkshire CCC’s youngest members came together to participate in Junior Viking day and what a day it was! Yorkshire Junior Vikings came to Headingley for a unique opportunity whereby they got to meet their heroes, play some cricket, participate in a stadium tour and then finally take their seats to enjoy the match!
At the start of the day, our Junior Vikings were taken for a coaching session by our partners ProCoach, which took place at the indoor cricket centre. During the session parents and guardians got to watch them play from outside the nets and up on the balcony.
Shortly after, the exciting opportunity arrived for the juniors to meet their idols and they couldn’t contain their excitement! The Yorkshire players headed over to the cricket centre to meet the youngsters and even played some cricket with them. The majority of the team were there, including Jack Brooks, Gary Ballance, Jonathan Bairstow, Richard Pyrah and Captain, Andrew Gale.
After autographs were signed and pictures taken, the young Vikings were then escorted out of the cricket centre and taken on an exclusive tour of the stadium by our tour guide Mel Reuben. They were taken around the ground and got to see places such as the media centre, player’s area and museum.
Susan Garner , parent, said: ‘This has been a fantastic way for the children to see behind the scenes at the club they love and meet the players which will encourage them to play cricket in the future’
As the tour drew to a close, they were then free to re-enter the stadium and enjoy the Yorkshire Vikings V Northamptonshire Steelbacks match.
The Junior Vikings Day aimed to teach our youngest members all about the Yorkshire County Cricket Club and build on their existing knowledge and interest of cricket, whilst encouraging them to play the sport. We are extremely pleased at how the day progressed and already have plans in place for 2016.
