Match Day Activations

The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation have put on a variety of match day activations throughout the 2016 season here at Headingley Cricket Ground. Whether at a T20, Royal London One-Day Cup, Yorkshire Diamonds or an International match… we always have something going on!

During the season the foundation has held a range off match day activations which involve youngsters getting the opportunity to go onto the pitch during major matches here at Headingley.

Guard Of Honour
The Guard of Honour is an opportunity that is offered out to Club Yorkshire Club Juniors which involves two U13 teams from across Yorkshire. Before the match, they get to go onto the pitch as flag bearers, taking in the great atmosphere in front of thousands of spectators, as the Yorkshire team run onto the pitch. The children receive free tickets to the match and also a free T-shirt as a keepsake.

Another of our match day activations is the one off chance to be the mascot for the day, this comes with a variety of perks such as watching the players warm up pitch-side, getting to go into the middle for the coin toss with both captains, a professional photo with the Yorkshire captain and then being able to take their seat and enjoy the match. This season, to recruit some of our 2016 Mascots, we held a mascot competition which branched across the YCF social media platforms, so keep an eye out on our social media for your chance to be involved for 2017!

Throw Show Competition
The YCF also hold a Throw Show competition on the outfield during the intervals of major fixtures at Headingley, which allows a healthy bit of competition between our two Guard Of Honour teams! Each team gets 1.30 seconds to score as many points as they can by throwing a ball into the net of our throw show inflatable. The competition builds up excitement and gets the crowd engaged, with spectators cheering on the children!

Kiwk Cricket
During 50 over matches we give also give U11 Cricket teams from across Yorkshire the chance to play Kwik cricket on the outfield, in the footsteps on their heros! This is an exclusive and a once in a lifetime opportunity for children to play on the same pitch as some of the greatest cricket players of all time.

The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation Gazebo
On major match days, we also have our Yorkshire Cricket Foundation gazebo stationed pitch-side, which promotes future events and current projects being held by the foundation, focusing on our five core themes; Education, Health and Wellbeing, History and Heritage, Participation and Inclusion, as well as being a helping hand to spectators around the ground.

The Yorkies
The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation are also responsible for running the Major Match Day Support Team volunteer program, ‘The Yorkies’. Throughout the season we have had a fantastic Yorkie team who have helped enhance the spectator experience by handing out freebies, directing people to the ground from local transport links, helping in the ticket collections and much more! Thank you to our wonderful 2016 Yorkie team for their help this season and for making Headingley a great place to visit!
