8 Easy Ways To Be More Healthy

We all know that keeping fit and staying healthy isn’t always easy. When you’re trying to juggle work, Uni, bills, kids and a social life, trekking to the gym is often the last thing on your mind. So here at the YCF, we’ve put our heads together and come up with 8 cheap and cheerful ways you can tweak your daily activities to become more healthy and also, more happy!
1. Take the Stairs!
How often do you park a little closer to the shops to ‘save your legs’ or take the lift instead of the stairs? Stop it! Think about what changes YOU could make to your daily routine to be a little more active. By making minor changes to your daily routine, you’ll not only be more active and healthy, you’ll feel better to.
2. Get Out of Your Office Chair
Standing up for just 1 hour a day can reduces the risk of all-cause mortality by up to 15%. So why not try getting up every hour and making a drink, or going to the toilet, rather than spending long periods sat down!
3. Join a Running Group
Motivating yourself to go for a run or the gym is just not that simple. If you’ve just finished work, it’s raining and you’ve got tea ready at home, it’s not so appealing to go grab your gym kit and get out there on your own. Studies show that people who run in groups are more likely to run more frequently than when running alone, so why not join a running group?
The #RoseRunners meet every Monday at 5.30 so why not get involved, it’ll make you feel fresh and ready to take on your week as well as improving your health and fitness!
4. Buy a New Water bottle
Drinking water is vital to saying healthy. So get out, buy yourself a brand new water bottle and challenge yourself to drink more each day. Not only is it thirst quenching, but it’s zero calorie and zero sugar, meaning it’s good for your body and your teeth. The Eat Well Guide recommends 6 to 8 glasses of fluid every day, so why not swap out those sugary drinks for water!
5. Count Your Steps!
Monitoring your steps is a great way to track how active you are. The recommended number of steps a day is 10,000, so why not try and make sure you hit this every day or improve each day by upping your step count.
6. Manage your Mind
Staying healthy is not just about your physical health, it’s also really important to manage your mental health and the two tend to go hand in hand. Don’t forget to take time out for yourself, even if it’s just 10 minutes a day. There’s lots of ways to do this, whether it be joining a social group, meditation or even just closing your eyes and taking a breather (also known as mindfulness).

7. Cut the Caffeine
We’re extremely guilty of this in the YCF office, so we need to practice what we preach! We all need that cup of coffee to get us going in the morning, but cutting back on our tea and coffee intake can have lots of health benefits. Check them out here
8. Eat More…
…Fruit and veg!
Swap out those sugary snacks for fruit and veg and make sure you get your 5 a day in. Why not change it up a bit and try a new fruit or veg each week? There are over 2,000 types of fruit in the world so get exploring to make your diet not only more healthy, but that little bit more interesting too.
