Lauren Winfield becomes YCF Ambassador
The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation (YCF) will be announcing Lauren Winfield as a YCF Ambassador on Sunday 20th August 2017, after Yorkshire Diamonds take on Western Storm. Lauren will be the second Ambassador of the Foundation, following on from Joe Root, who was announced as the first YCF Ambassador in April 2016.
The launch will involve children who attend the match being invited to take photos and have autographs signed with Lauren after the game.
Lauren has joined the YCF team to help highlight the positive community work that is undertaken by the Foundation across the county, with particular emphasis on work promoting women and girls cricket engagement and participation.
The day will also host a Kwik Cricket match, with winners forming the Guard of Honour for the game, as well as the Yorkshire Diamonds Roadshow Finale, which is an end to a series of roadshows that took place across the summer, with the aim of getting more girls actively involved in cricket participation.
“I think it’s hugely important for cricket players that you give back to the community, the clubs and the kids that you were yourself at one point; I think that’s why I really wanted to get involved with the foundation and reach out the communities and the young kids that hopefully will grow up and be in the position that I’m in.
I think sometimes we take for granted the impact we can have, as players, on these kids at schools and cricket clubs. We want to push them and give them inspiration so they know that one day they can do what we do and grow up with those big dreams too.” -Lauren Winfield, YCF Ambassador, Yorkshire Diamonds and England Cricket
Lauren Winfield, current captain of the Yorkshire Diamonds, is a wicketkeeper and opening batsman, who first represented the White Rose county at Under 15s level in 2003. She will be supporting the work of the foundation and helping raise awareness for the community work that runs throughout the year.
“Having Lauren on board as an Ambassador of the foundation will be great for helping promote our community work and helping us reach even more areas of the Yorkshire county, particularly for our increased engagement with women and girls cricket. We want to showcase the positive work that the foundation does and its impact on the community. In April, we announced Joe Root as our first ever Ambassador and now with Lauren on board as well, we have two strong role models within the world of cricket to represent The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation and what we are about”- Will Saville, The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation Manager.
