Heard of the Yorkshire Cricket College? Not sure what it’s all about? Here’s everything you need to know….
Whether you want to go to university or pursue your dream career in sport, the Yorkshire Cricket College will provide you with the qualifications and skills you need to do just that.
The Yorkshire Cricket College is more than just your average college. It’s a unique opportunity to learn in world-class facilities and combine studying for a Level 3 BTEC qualification with playing cricket, work experience opportunities and volunteering.
In an increasingly competitive jobs market, employers don’t just look at qualifications. They also want employees who have transferable skills and work experience. The Yorkshire Cricket College will help you stand out amongst the crowd by providing you with all the skills you need to succeed in the world of work.
Here’s how the Yorkshire Cricket College can help you to build your dream career:
Qualifications you need to get into university
Over the two years at the Yorkshire Cricket College, you will study for a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport. This qualification is the equivalent of 3 A levels and can give you the UCAS points you need to go on to study a sport-related subject at degree level.
A variety of modules
The modules you will study as part of your BTEC qualification are varied and cover a range of topics such as anatomy and physiology, sports coaching, sports injuries and organising sports events. This will allow you to gain a wide knowledge of the sporting industry that can be applied to a number of different careers.
Work experience and voluntary opportunities
At the Yorkshire Cricket College it’s not just about studying; you will also have access to excellent work experience and voluntary opportunities. You will get the chance to work alongside the staff at Yorkshire Cricket in a range of departments such as the ticket office, marketing, hospitality or coaching. You can also volunteer for Yorkshire Cricket at match days or in the community. All of these experiences will look great on your CV as employers look for people who get involved with extracurricular activities.
CV building and 1-to-1 support
You will be taught by the same tutor for the whole two years which means they can really get to know you and support you with your career ambitions. Unlike school and other colleges, you will be treated like an adult from the moment you arrive at the Yorkshire Cricket College and class sizes are small meaning you will benefit from personalised support. Advice about how to write CVs, cover letters and personal statements is built into your classes to help you when applying for jobs or university.
Inspiration from the professionals
As you will be learning and training at Headingley Stadium, you will be walking in the shoes of the professionals and will often see professional cricketers around the ground. It’s an inspirational place to learn and we have a variety of professional guest speakers lined up to motivate you to achieve your goals.
Cricket coaching and world-class facilities
Ever wondered how the pro’s train? Not only will you have access to the same facilities as the professionals, but you will also have 6 hours of cricket coaching per week in these facilities, to allow you to develop your game and skills that are valuable in the workplace. The coaches know what it takes to juggle training and education and will be on hand to help you succeed. Your dedication to your sport demonstrates commitment and integrity and, by playing in cricket matches, you will develop your teamwork and communication skills: all of which will impress future employers.
At the Yorkshire Cricket College you don’t have to choose between your love for sport and your education. You will gain a useful qualification at the same time as gaining real-world work experience and developing skills that are valuable to employers.
