New Record for Drax Cup Entries
This year’s Drax Cup will be the biggest in the cricket competition’s history, with a record number of schools taking part.
The under 9s competition has grown steadily since it was launched in 2007. This year 440 primary schools from across Yorkshire have entered – nearly 50% more than in 2012.
It’s fantastic to see such a large increase in teams taking part this year. The Drax Cup is a fantastic competition and we are looking forward to finals day at Headingley Cricket Ground.
— Will Saville – Yorkshire Cricket Foundation
The Drax Cup is the biggest cricket competition for under 9s in the country. Teams play in a series of round robin events to produce four area winners, one from each region of Yorkshire.
These four teams will play the Drax Cup 2013 Finals at Headingley Cricket Ground on Tuesday 9 July, prior to Yorkshire Carnegie v Leicestershire Foxes in the Friends Life t20.
“It’s great to see the competition attracting more interest across the county. Cricket is enjoying increasing popularity with younger players and we wish all participating teams the very best of luck!”
The competition is sponsored by Drax and organised by The Yorkshire County Cricket Club in conjunction with Yorkshire Cricket Board, Yorkshire Schools’ Cricket Association and the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation. The sponsorship by Drax is part of the company’s Cricket In The Community scheme which also provides cricket coaching to schools.
