Grey Fox Highlights - Rainton overcome Cottingham
Rainton Cricket Club made 198-8 as they beat Cottingham CC, who lost the toss and posted 196 after being put in to bat, by two wickets in the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation’s Grey Fox Trophy.
The competition is aimed at over 50’s in the Yorkshire area, with teams competing in a round-robin stage and the top four teams progressing to semi-finals day at New Rover CC.
It follows a 30 over a side format with age-related run handicaps and over limits per bowler also in place to encourage people and teams of all abilities to take part.
Dave Killgallon opened the batting for ‘Cotts Old Boys’ and made 30 before retiring, with Kenneth Parker, Graeme Furlong and Rob Rhodes also making 32, 31 and 38 respectively.
Peter Slee bowled well and took four of the six Cotts wickets, with Andrew Boddy and Kent taking the other two.
In reply, Chris Hill made 60 not out for Rainton at number three with Roberts making a further 31 as they chased down the total with five balls remaining.
Graeme Furlong and Derek Routh both took two wickets whilst Kenneth Parker and Steve East took one apiece but it wasn’t enough to stop Rainton winning the match.
All in all, it was a fantastic day with the match played in a friendly, sportsman-like atmosphere and we look forward to seeing how the two teams fare as the competition progresses.
