Grey Fox Highlights - Helperby the Age beat New Farnley
Helperby the Age posted 181-3 in beating New Farnley Old Boys by 39 runs in the latest instalment of the Grey Fox Trophy, a tournament organised by the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation.
The competition is aimed at over 50’s in the Yorkshire area, with teams competing in a round-robin stage and the top four teams progressing to semi-finals day at New Rover CC.
It follows a 30 over a side format with age-related run handicaps and over limits per bowler also in place to encourage people and teams of all abilities to take part.
Helperby the Age set the tempo batting first, achieving a very respectable total score of 181. Leading the way was Raine with 32, Sowery with 31 and Downing on 30, all of whom retired not out. Their three wickets were taken by New Farnley bowlers Farrell, Inglis and Scaife.
In reply, New Farnley Old Boys knew they had a big task at hand, chasing 181.
R.Good made a solid start for his team, making 27 runs before being caught out. Snowden was behind on 26 not out and D Watson made his mark with 26 of his own before being caught out. At the end of their 30 overs they had managed 142-8.
Raine was the pick of the Helperby bowlers with three wickets, followed closely by Wade with two. Pickles, Sowery and Tuley all took a wicket each.
We would like to say a special thank you to J. Dickinson & T. Wallace from New Farley for their sportsmanship in playing for the opposition, who were short of numbers this week.
