Grey Fox Highlights - Wetherby Wrinklies prevail

Last week Wetherby Wrinklies beat Windmill Daisyhill by 10 wickets in the latest round of 2019 Grey Fox Trophy fixtures, a competition run by the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation.

Windmill Daisyhill batted first and made 98 runs before being bowled out with 2.9 overs of their 30 over allocation remaining.

Crabtree top-scored for them with 19 runs followed by Reynard who posted 10, with the competition format requiring batsmen to retire on 30 to allow more people the chance to play.

Wetherby then batted well and reached their target of 99 quite comfortably in truth, doing so in just 12.1 overs.

Thompson was their top run scorer with 33 before retiring not out, whilst his opening partner Boothroyd made 21.

44 extras in the innings meant Korko was able to bring the match to a close with his one run added to the scoreboard.

The Grey Fox Trophy is a tournament aimed at giving over 50s who have maybe retired or cannot commit to regular, formal cricket the opportunity to compete in a friendly environment.

All teams compete in a round robin stage before the top four teams compete in a semi-finals day at New Rover CC.

Those who don’t qualify will compete for the Plate Trophy – another knock-out competition with the finals day taking place at Scarborough CC.
