College beat Queen Ethelburga's by seven wickets
The Yorkshire Cricket College were victorious yet again last week, beating York-based Queen Ethelburga’s College by seven wickets in their 40-over a side match.
The result continues the College’s fine run of form this season and should be given particular significance due to the quality of the opponents and the margin of victory.
Queen Ethelburga batted first and made 168-9 from their allocation, with Hopper top scoring on 31 followed by Smith and Edwards with 24 each.
Oliver Cunningham was the pick of the YCC bowlers, taking 3-20 from his six-over spell, with Boeta Buekes taking 2-31 from five overs.
Jonny MacGregor, Harrison Wood, Josh Wild and Jacob Phillips all took one apiece as the students restricted their opponents’ scoring fantastically well.
Wood and Harry Wilkinson then opened the batting in reply and made 12 and 33 respectively before number three Kieran Collins made 16 off 25 balls.
MacGregor then stole the show with a fantastic 75 from 33 balls, smashing seven 4s and five 6s at a strike rate of 227 to win the match with 18.3 overs to spare.
The Yorkshire Cricket College gives 16-18 year olds the opportunity to study for a BTEC level 3 extended diploma in sport alongside training and playing out of Emerald Headingley Stadium.
