Meet new Wakefield Walking Cricket Captain, Ray

We are excited to announce that our third Walking Cricket group is now officially up and running in Wakefield!

We caught up with new captain, Ray, to get his thoughts…

I first got involved with Walking Cricket with Barnsley U3A sessions at Dodworth, Mac (Lead for Barnsley) realised it would be good to set up a Wakefield group as several of the Barnsley players live near the Wakefield area. Wakefield have over 70 registered Walking Football books, some of whom have expressed a desire to play Walking Cricket as well.

Locally we know men and women over 55 years of age who wish to continue their sporting careers, many older people give up sport in their late thirties, but Walking Cricket gives us a chance to renew our sporting interest and not just by being “spectators”.

I am very excited about Walking Cricket coming to Wakefield, it has proven to be a great initiative in other areas of Yorkshire. We already have a group of 12+ who have started with us.

I hope to see more opportunities for older Yorkshire people to enjoy the game they love!

Many thanks for your continued loyal support.
Ray.
