Hamzah Hussain - Community Development Officer (Sheffield)

My role at the YCF is to increase participation in the Sheffield area. I aim to tackle the major issues of health inequality by creating the spaces and opportunities to make cricket playable all year round.

My background is design and architecture. During my architecture studies, I helped design a new pavilion at my club – Caribbean Sports Club – and continue to work on a live project, with the support of the Sheffield City Council, to build an Urban cricket facility in an area with the highest health inequalities in the city.

Since 2017, I’ve led an indoor cricket league which has grown from 30 friends to 100+ weekly participants playing together in winter. With the help of Sport England funding, passionate volunteers, and the power of social media, we’ve created a proud & sustainable platform for community cohesion.

In my free time, I make TikTok’s (@cricket.arena), experiment with graphic design and volunteer at my sports club.
