"Rain, rain, go away, come again another day"

“Rain, rain, go away, come again another day”

This is what the teams were screaming out when the month of May looked to be a complete washout, therefore putting on hold the second season of the Ramadan Tape Ball Tournament in Leeds. Unfortunately mother nature was victorious and the tournament was put on hold till the following month.

Fast forward to June and we were blessed with some beautiful weather, allowing for the tournament to go ahead. The first day held in Beeston saw three teams clash in 8 over games, displaying some scintillating cricket. The first game saw Belly Boys CC take on Leeds Stallions, although Belly Boys showed great heart and courage; Leeds Stallions came out on top, providing us with some entertaining cricket.

The second game of the day saw Leeds Stallions take on Stunning Beds CC. It looked to be an easy win for Leeds Stallions after Stunning Beds only turned up with 6 players, missing two. But they put on one hell of a show, which set the platform for the remainder of the tournament. Stallions amassed a decent score of 86 but Stunning Beds wiped the floor with them, chasing down the score in 6 overs and sending a bundle of huge sixes out the park. Finally the last game saw Belly Boys take on Stunning Beds, with the latter opting to bat first and they sure did make use of this opportunity. Stunning Beds played some exhilarating cricket, accumulating a huge score of 136 in 8 overs and making quick work of Belly Boys by bowling them out for 36.

After a great day of cricket, Stunning Beds CC and Leeds Stallions progressed through to finals day at Roundhay Park.

Unfortunately the second day saw forfeits from teams and only one team progressed through to the finals day.

Due to forfeits, the finals day only saw three teams play instead of the originally scheduled 4. As Stunning Beds were top of the table, they automatically advanced through to the final and Leeds Stallions took on Khan CC in the semi final. It was a very thrilling Semi Final, Leeds Stallions batted first and along with some poor bowling from the Khan’s as well as excellent batting they were able to amass a total of 135. On the other hand Khan CC saw a positive start in their response but one too many hits saw them succumb to a total of 98, making way for Leeds Stallions to the final.

The final saw Stunning Beds take on Leeds Stallions once again, with both Beeston teams looking to seize victory. Stunning Beds elected to bat first and once again put on a stunning display of batting, making easy work of Stallion’s bowlers. In total they racked up 130 runs, again a massive score for them. Leeds Stallions got off to a very poor start with a first ball wicket for Stunning Beds. But the batsmen did capitalise on some poor bowling and looked on track to get close to the total, however after two very good last overs the Stallions were eventually restricted to 106 and off went the Stunning Beds Team in their joyous celebrations.

Overall it was an invigorating tournament, despite losing one day to forfeits. However it was good to see a high standard of cricket from all the sides and with normality returning it was a pleasure being able to network with different people, once again!
