Last week, the Yorkshire Cricket College 2nd XI played host to close rivals Grammar School at Leeds. Good weather greeted the two teams and it looked certain to be a fierce encounter between two strong outfits. Batting first, Yorkshire Cricket College were dealt an early blow as Elliot Audsley had opener James Butler out for a second ball duck. It wasn’t long before Eastwood was Audsley’s second victim for 6 runs with the score on 13-2. Only 28 runs were added before Dan Houlton had Elliot Wilson out for 17.

Upcoming leg spinner Sam Wisniewski and wicketkeeper Max Rawson were next to fall in quick succession as Ryan Patel ripped through the college batting order. This left them stuttering on 52-5. It wasn’t long before the Yorkshire Cricket College innings ended on 127 all out. The only stand out batsmen was Tom Starkey who registered a well-made 50 of 48 balls. Ryan Patel was the pick of the bowlers with 7 overs 3-13.

In response to the below par score, highly rated batsmen Vikram Sharma and Elliot Audsley came out fighting and put on 80 runs before Sharma fell, run out for 39. GSAL continued to pick up runs and Audsley (54*) and Candilish (33*) comfortably saw them home inside 13 overs. A comprehensive 9 wicket victory for GSAL which was set up by the superb work from their bowlers earlier on.
