As the fourth round of matches in the LPL Hundred draws ever closer, one fixture this weekend stands out more than the rest. The jewel in the crown that is this weekends action is the fixture contested by reigning champions; Leeds Gladiators, and this year’s closest challengers – Hyde Park Eagles.

The two teams top this years table, with Leeds Gladiators winning 6 out of 6 at a canter. Hyde Park Eagles were undefeated up until last weekend before stumbling to defeat against Harrogate Warriors. They now sit 2 points behind the Gladiators.

Both teams have played some exhilarating cricket, with some huge sixes great wickets and excellent fielding. It’s no wonder they sit 1st and 2nd in the table.

When asked about how the game will unfold, the captains said:

“I think the game is going to be very exciting and will be a well fought match. Both teams have a good set of players who can change the match on their own. Both teams have also been performing consistently. I can’t wait for the match and I hope the weather holds on so we can put on an exciting match” Jacob (Leeds Gladiators)

“Well, we happen to know of their excellence and quality which they possess. We equally know that that it’s a matchup between talent vs will-power. We have come this far with the ethos of giving 100% and playing as a unit – no matter the result, and this coming game we think no different. If anything we are excited and prepared to give our new best. Question remains, will the Eagles…. Claim worthy glory!” Ashfaq ( Hyde Park Eagles)

In terms of ‘star players’ the two captains had differing opinions:

Jacob – “Our star player is Maddy, he can bat and bowl really well. He is also good in the field”.

Ashfaq – “It’s hard to say. I believe every player in the team is a star of his own. I do not have any of the 11 without a role. Either a bowler or a batsman. This way I force a performance out of them!!!”
