Yorkshire Cricket Foundation and the Sporting Memories Network CIC (SMN) have secured funding to establish 3, weekly sporting memories groups in Leeds. The Sporting Memories Network project is delivering the training and resources to provide reminiscence activities that improve the mental and physical well-being of older people and those living with dementia through tapping into the passion, knowledge and love of sport. Using iconic images, reports and memorabilia to stimulate and unlock long-term memories of watching or playing sport, the approach promotes socialisation, communication and cognitive functioning. It also often rekindles an urge to take part in sports, games and gentle exercise.
The project will include regular action learning events where staff and volunteers will come together to share progress, learning and ideas.
