Sporting Reminiscence sessions

Sporting reminiscence – share your memories and support others to do the same.

Since early May Yorkshire Cricket Foundation have been working with ‘Looking Back’ (formerly known as Dewsbury Memories) offering online Sporting Reminiscence sessions every Thursday at 2pm.

The remote sessions have been developed as part of the Yorkshire Cricket Heritage: Reminiscence & Education – Building a Legacy project (funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund). The initial intention was to set up a network of face to face sessions working with volunteers from local cricket clubs which have engaged with the project. The Foundation is working with over 15 clubs from across the Leeds and Bradford area on various different element of the project and planned to roll out this activity across different settings and environments such as cricket clubs themselves, other community venues and care homes.

Chris Chatten, Project Manager said, “We would like to reach as many people as possible who enjoy listening too and/or sharing their memories and we would like to encourage care homes to offer to their residents where possible. Since Covid-19 hit the country, people find themselves reminiscing about their own sporting achievements or fixtures which they might have attended. Therefore, sporting reminiscence is probably more important now than it has ever been. We are encouraging people to share their local cricket memories and talk about sport in general, whilst connecting with others who share the same passion, we would also like to hear from potential volunteers to aid is in sustaining and growing this fantastic offer”

To encourage people to share their local cricket memories the Foundation have also set up a Facebook group (Yorkshire Local Cricket Club Memories) to share tales and photographs from yesteryear, memories don’t have to be from years ago though as history is anything that happened yesterday!

The Foundation would like to hear from any volunteers that would either be interested in supporting the facilitation of sessions and/or ‘Digital Champions’ to help/support people signing into the Zoom technology if they are unfamiliar with it and using for the first time.

To register your interest as a potential volunteer and/or obtain the meeting ID please contact chris.chatten@yorkshirecricketfoundation.com
