Yorkshire Cricket College v MCC

The Yorkshire Cricket College were back in action on Wednesday, with students competing against MCC-Marylebone Cricket Club in two T20 fixtures at North Leeds Cricket Ground.

The prestigious fixture saw the college second years take on a strong MCC line up featuring a number of top local cricketers over two T20 matches.

The first game saw MCC come out on top, despite a brilliant display from J Slator who top scored for the college with 76 not out.

In the second game, the MCC started well with the bat, however some excellent bowling from the Yorkshire Cricket College stemmed the flow of runs. The attack was spearheaded by L Gunner, who took five wickets in total, including a hat-trick. The college reached their target with the winning runs scored by W Kelly who ended on 50 not out.

The fixture provided some fantastic experience for students who were able to play against a range of abilities and provided chance for the second years to play their first game representing the college after Covid -19 prevented their season from starting.

College Head Coach, Matt Green commented, “Playing the MCC is one of the highlights of the college’s fixture card. To compete against adults is a great test for the group and they have done themselves proud today with some outstanding performances. For obvious reasons, it’s been tough to arrange competitive matches this season, however it’s fantastic that we have had the opportunity to ensure the college play some cricket together before the end of the summer”.

The Yorkshire Cricket College offers 16-18-year-olds the chance to combine cricket with education, representing the college in matches whilst completing a two-year NCFE level 3 extended diploma in sport. Seen as an alternative to the traditional A-level route, the educational aspect is provided by our partners SCL and all lessons are taught at Emerald Headingley Stadium.

Open Evenings for students looking to learn more about the college will take place on Tuesday 27th October and Tuesday 24th November. Attendees will be able to learn more about what the course entails, have a look at all college learning facilities and meet course tutors.
