Leeds, Bradford & Sheffield celebrate indoor league finals

Teams in Leeds, Bradford and Sheffield are celebrating after winning local Yorkshire Cricket Foundation Indoor League adult titles.

In Leeds, our flagship league, in partnership with LPL, was won by the Superchargers, while AK Eagles took the title in Bradford and in Sheffield the Pitsmoor Avengers side came out on top.

Our competition, part of our core cities programme, runs through October and November annually and this year came to an end after 80 games were played across the three cities, with 264 players taking part across more than 20 teams.

Sohail Raz, Diverse Communities Manager for YCF, and the organiser for this league, said: “The indoor leagues across Leeds, Bradford and Sheffield have run well across the last couple of months.

“They have provided opportunities for players to keep fit during the off season and keep that competitive edge. The organisation from all cities has been fabulous and the leagues are improving every time with great feedback from all the teams involved.”

Leeds

Leeds Indians (LI) sailed through to the final after beating Lion Heart (LH) in the first semi-final of the day. Leeds Indians were helped with early wickets in the clash and bowled some tight lines. They held Lion Heart to a modest total and successfully reached the target without losing any wickets.

In the second semi-final Superchargers (SC) demonstrated why they are one of the top bowling line-ups by knocking out The Unknowns (TU).

The final between Leeds Indians and Superchargers was a nail-biter that went down to the final over.

Leeds Indians batted first and managed a respectable total, but the Superchargers’ openers came out firing. The game was won for them by their opening partnership. With some clever bowling, Leeds Indians were able to get back into the game when both of the Superchargers’ openers quickly fell. However, the Superchargers’ batter hit a six off the second ball of the final over to become the champions.

“Another success was Junior player requirement in each team: 15 Juniors were given an opportunity to showcase their talent, develop with guidance from experienced players and many have been offered exit routes through to hardball clubs.

“We hope to grow the league in the upcoming YCF Sheffield Cup to improve diversity, participation numbers and offer an opportunity for the winner to play the champions of Kirklees, Leeds, and Bradford in a Yorkshire finals day.”
