The Grey Fox Trophy returned this week for the second round in Group C, seeing Dale Dragons host Bowling Old Lane. It’s been a tough competition in Group C, with Hall Park holding a firm place at the top, but a win from either side in the match could decide who takes second place.
The match went underway with Dales batting first. It was a steady innings from the Dragons, with all players getting a bat in the 29 overs played. Rehem and Dare were the stand out batsmen, with both Dragons retiring at 30 and both returning to bat. But the Dales were held back by the Old Lanes bowling and fielding, with impressive overs from the likes of Hanif and Bhatti. All in all, the innings ended with all batters out on an impressive 174 runs.
It was now time for the Old Lanes to prove their batting skills, with Hanif and Iqbal opening the innings. It didn’t take long to get underway with Hanif quick to retirement. Unfortunately, he same couldn’t be said for Iqbal with the batter being the only man out in the innings, getting caught by Rehman in the field. However, the rest of the team were on a mission to get this game over, with 4 batsmen retiring before the runs were amounted up in the 17th over. Although some impressing fielding and bowling from the Dales, it was just no match for the Old Lanes.
After a short-lived game, Old Bowling Lanes came out on top, claiming second place in Group C. This is their first win of the 2017 competition, and could still be in the running for the top place. The Dales Dragons are still looking for their first win, but still have one match to play. All teams in this league are yet to play Nidderdale Notsoyoungs, so all is still up for grabs!
