Children's Day 2013 Proves to be a Huge Success
The sun was shining, the activities were amazing and the crowds poured in to Headingley Stadium for Children’s Day 2013.
The annual community event organised by The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation in partnership with the Gary Chapelow Memorial Fund and Leeds Rugby Foundation attracted a record attendance of 6,000.
Activities and tournaments took place throughout the day including archery, pony rides, viking sword fighting, basketball, Eureka to name just a few. West Yorkshire Police also provided a number of activities as part of their open day. The old police cars, crime scene and wanted posters were as always, very popular.
During the morning the cricket and rugby grounds played host to the annual sports tournaments involving junior teams in cricket, rugby and football. In a highly competitive cricket tournament, North Stainley CC were crowned the 2013 champions, receiving the trophy and medals from Yorkshire CCC’s Jack Brooks
Children’s Day was a fantastic event this year! The weather was amazing and it was great to see so many people at the ground enjoying the day and getting involved.

This year Children’s Day was building up to the hotly contested cricket match between Emmerdale and West Yorkshire Police. Eric Pollard (Chris Chittle) led the Emmerdale stars but they came second best to the police side by a narrow margin.
Sophie Hayward, Project Officer for the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation commented on the event “Children’s Day was a fantastic event this year! The weather was amazing and it was great to see so many people at the ground enjoying the day and getting involved. A huge thank you has to go to all the organisations who came along and provided free activities, especially West Yorkshire Police who have this event as part of their open day. The display on the cricket ground from the police dogs was just one of the many highlights.”
