The e:merge of Cook & Move!
Cook & Move began when the YCF and e:merge came together to try and create a new and exciting opportunity for the community of Holme Wood, to try and inspire physical activity, healthy eating and nutrition and community cohesion by bringing families together to take part.
And with help from Ryecroft Primary Academy’s enthusiastic and passionate PE and Outdoor Learning teacher, Mr O’Brien, Cook and Move was born!
Cook & Move is a 6-week programme based around encouraging families to learn about and thus lead, healthier, more active lifestyles.
In partnership with e:merge, the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation have contributed to the first ever Cook & Move programme, at Ryecroft Primary Academy; a primary school based within Holme Wood. The programme is open to ALL families residing in and around the Holme Wood area.
Sessions include half an hour of multi-activities and games to get families moving, followed by half an hour of healthy food and snack making and eating, with a recipe card to take home each week too! Each sessions aims to encourage principles of healthy eating and nutrition, alongside being physically active, all for only £1 per family, per session!
Planned and organised by the YCF and delivered by e:merge staff members, Kieran, Selina and Matthew, the sessions have proven to be successful, by simply getting families active and more knowledgeable about healthy eating.
These three individuals from e:merge have also been upskilled in Food Hygiene and Safety alongside healthy nutrition and food delivery, as funded by the YCF, to allow for the project to continue long into the future and provide easy access through low cost, making Cook and Move sustainable.
Throughout the first round of this programme we have reached 10 families, all made up of over 30 individuals! Each family has learnt about making pesto and guacamole from scratch, fruit skewers, lettuce ‘tachos’, many family games and so much more, and alongside this they have taken these messages home with them!
We hope we have and can continue inspire families in Holme Wood and beyond to think more about their lifestyle choices and influence some positive changes in line with activity levels and healthy eating.
Active Families Bradford is a project funded by Sport England and the National Lottery UK through the Asian Sports Foundation. We thank our funding partners for their support and allowing this programme to be founded.
