What is Chance to Shine?
Chance to Shine is a national charity that aims to give all children the opportunity to play, learn and develop through cricket.
The scheme is funded by the Cricket Foundation with Counties focusing their specific programmes on local clubs and schools, aiming to increase school participation and engagement, inclusive competitions and enhanced transitions from school to club cricket.
The national objectives are based on outcomes achieved through local primary and secondary schools, receiving quality coaching visits supporting junior cricketers to play competitive cricket.
- To strengthen cricket provision where cricket is played.
- To revitalise cricket where cricket is no longer played, or played only infrequently.
- To bring cricket provision to state schools where cricket can bring enormous benefit.
- To create high quality, sustainable cricket programmes over 10 years in a third of all State Schools.
- To create a strong base to cricket’s pyramid.

Chance to Shine Street
The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation in partnership with Chance to Shine deliver cricket sessions to young people (8-24 years old) through Street cricket clubs. Each week the programme provides an opportunity for children from under-served communities the opportunity to develop cricket and life skills, whilst making new friends.
The free Street clubs which run after school and on weekends also provide the opportunity for young people to take part in informal matches. Players do not need to have any previous experience of the game or bring any equipment with them.
The young people are given ownership of the sessions, whether they want to progress their skills, or just want to have a fun time with their friends, no matter the age or ability. The YCF also run girls only sessions.
