The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation is committed to creating a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone who engages with our programmes, events and community activities. We work closely with the ECB, Cricket Regulator and the wider cricketing network to ensure the highest standards of safeguarding practice across everything we deliver.

YCF adopts the ECB ‘Safe Hands’ Policy and Safeguarding Adults Policy and maintains robust internal processes to ensure safe practice across all YCF programmes. This includes:

  • Clear safeguarding and welfare policies aligned with ECB guidance;
  • Regular review of procedures to ensure compliance and best practice;
  • Risk assessments for all YCF activities, events and venues;
  • Appropriate supervision ratios and activity-specific safeguarding planning;
  • Safe recruitment practices that include DBS checks, interviews and vetting; and
  • Staff and volunteer codes of conduct.

Our policies are reviewed annually and can be found here.

The ECB’s safeguarding guidance can be found in the their Safeguarding Kit Bag.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Whether you are a participant, volunteer, parent, partner organisation or YCF employee, we encourage you to speak up and help us keep all members of our cricketing community safe.

Safeguarding Structure in Cricket

Safeguarding in cricket is supported by a clear national and local structure designed to keep everyone safe.

At a national level, the Cricket Regulator oversees safeguarding standards, manages serious concerns and ensures consistency across the game, working alongside the ECB which sets safeguarding policy, guidance and training requirements.

At a local level, County Boards and Foundations, such as the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation, provide advice, support and education to clubs and leagues, helping them meet safeguarding requirements and respond appropriately to concerns.

League Safeguarding Officers play a key role by supporting clubs within their leagues, providing guidance and acting as a link between clubs and County Boards/Foundations.

Every club is required to appoint a trained Club Safeguarding Officer, who serves as the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns, supports those affected and ensures issues are reported through the correct channels.

Together, this structure ensures safeguarding concerns are identified early, managed consistently and escalated appropriately, creating a safe and supportive environment for everyone involved in cricket.
