Sunday 6 September at Helperby Cricket Club

Following last week’s disappointment, when adverse weather forced the cancellation of the original Finals Day at Malton and Old Malton Cricket Club, the North Yorkshire Women’s Softball Finals were successfully rearranged and held on Sunday 6 September at Helperby Cricket Club.

A huge thank you goes to Helperby Cricket Club for stepping in at short notice and providing excellent facilities to host what proved to be a fantastic day of cricket.

The competition brought together five teams from women’s softball leagues across North Yorkshire:

  • Whitby (Scarborough Ryedale Women’s Softball League)
  • Great Ayton (Hambleton Women’s Softball League)
  • Sheriff Hutton Bridge (York Area Women’s Softball League)
  • Studley Royal (Nidderdale Women’s Softball League)
  • Whixley (Nidderdale Women’s Softball League)

The day began in challenging circumstances, with rain arriving after the completion of the opening round of fixtures. Fortunately, the weather improved, allowing the remaining four rounds to be played in a slightly shortened format. Despite the interruptions, the standard of cricket throughout the day was exceptional and served as a testament to the continued growth and development of the women’s softball game across North Yorkshire.

With only two qualification places available for the Yorkshire Women’s Softball Finals, due to be held on Sunday 13 September at York Cricket Club, every match carried significant importance. After a full day of competitive and closely contested cricket, Whitby were crowned North Yorkshire Women’s Softball Champions, securing their place at the county finals alongside runners-up Great Ayton.

We would like to congratulate both teams on their success and wish them, along with all participating clubs, the very best of luck at York Cricket Club on Sunday.

Finally, thank you once again to Helperby Cricket Club for hosting the event and to all five clubs for their enthusiasm and commitment to playing the game in such a positive spirit.
