Clifton Alliance CC brought their season to a memorable conclusion at Headingley Stadium on Saturday 26th September, lifting the White Rose Trophy following their final against Richmondshire CC.
Playing at the home of Yorkshire Cricket provided a fitting stage for the final and, for Clifton Alliance, the occasion represented the culmination of several years of hard work both on and off the field.
Reflecting on the opportunity to coach his side in the final at Headingley, Steve Hanson, the Director of Cricket at Clifton Alliance said:
“Saturday was the culmination of four years of planning and working towards being in a position to challenge at the top of Yorkshire cricket. To get the opportunity to demonstrate how far we’ve come as a club at the home of Yorkshire cricket was brilliant.”
The celebrations after the final provided one of the most memorable moments of the day, with players, supporters and club members able to share in the achievement together.
“The standout moment was getting the chance for the team to pose for a photo with the trophy, and our YPLN trophy, surrounded by all the supporters and club members.”
While the players delivered on the pitch, the victory was also an achievement for the wider Clifton Alliance community and the many volunteers whose work throughout the season helped the club reach the Headingley final.
The significance of being crowned champions was not lost on the club.
“It’s massive for recreational cricketers to be recognised as the Champion Club in the most famous cricketing county. The recognition is massive for every member of our club, as we would never have got to Headingley without the huge amount of unpaid hours put in by our volunteer members.”
The White Rose Trophy triumph provides a memorable end to the season for Clifton Alliance and a reward for the commitment shown across the club over recent years.
